To the Members of the Mount Riga Community,

We are writing on behalf of the Mount Riga Lake Management Committee (LMC) as part of our ongoing mission to help ensure the long-term health of our lakes.

While our lakes remain in generally good condition, recent monitoring has identified signs of increased nutrient loading, which can contribute to gradual declines in water quality over time. Although this is part of the natural aging process of lakes, environmental influences—both natural and human-caused—can accelerate these changes.

Working with our limnologist, Hillary Kenyon of Applied Watershed Sciences, we are seeking to better understand the factors affecting our lakes and the extent to which human activities may contribute to nutrient inputs. As a first step, we will be conducting a community-wide survey this summer and hope that every camp will participate.

The survey is intended solely to collect information in aggregate so that we can better understand potential sources of nutrient loading as part of a broader assessment of lake health. Individual responses will remain confidential and will be used only for analytical purposes. A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document is attached to provide additional information.

Before distributing the survey, we invite all interested members of the community to attend a webinar hosted by the LMC. The webinar will include a brief presentation by Hillary Kenyon on lake health and nutrient loading, followed by a moderated question-and-answer session.

We encourage you to attend and learn more about the project before completing the survey. If you have questions in advance, please send them to [email protected] so they can be incorporated into the discussion.

Thank you for your interest and participation in helping preserve the health and quality of Mount Riga’s lakes for future generations. We hope you will join us on June 29th and take part in the survey.

    Sincerely,

The Mount Riga Lake Management Committee
